Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said having successfully conducted a credible, free and fair election their position will get better.

While speaking during the opening of the Special Budget Forum organised by the Ministry of Finance, Bainimarama said our parliament will sit for the first time in eight years on Monday, from the same spot where the tragic cycle of instability that has scarred the nation began back in May 1987.

Bainimarama said they intend to put a full stop to the years of wasted opportunity and by working together they will move their nation forward.

He said they all will be there to really make a difference in their national life for the sake of every Fijian.

He stressed that what industry or organisation one represents or whom they voted for all are important for this government.

Bainimarama said he has asked his opponents in parliament to work constructively with him.

He added whatever differences we must share a common vision of a better Fiji and we owe it to the Fijian people to work as hard as we possibly can in the interest of our nation

Bainimarama said never before Fiji has had so much potential for growth.

He added having a united future and buried divisions of the past, the world is expecting us to take off.

Bainimarama also said that a large part of their focus will be to reform the public sector.

He said that it needs to be restructured, and that our civil service needs to keep up with the demands of a modern economy.

He said there is a need to put the service back into civil service.

He added it needs to be more responsive to the public.

Bainimarama said he intends to improve the civil service by improving conditions so that the best people could be attracted to the government service.

Meanwhile, the Leaders of the Opposition Parties Ro Teimumu Kepa and Biman Prasad did not attend the special budget forum yesterday although they were officially given invitations by the Ministry of Finance to attend the forum.
