Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama said he is willing to engage with the Melanesian Spearhead Group leaders and is ready to tell them about the timelines set for Fiji to go to elections in September 2014.
Just before leaving for the Special MSG Retreat in Port Villa earlier today, Commodore Bainimarama said he will tell the leaders from Vanuatu, PNG and Solomon’s that his government needs to implement the reforms before the elections.
Bainimarama said he is pleased that the Melanesian leaders are ready to engage with Fiji.
All the four leaders of the Melanesian Spearhead Group have confirmed their attendance for the Special Retreat.
Vanuatu Prime Minister Edward Natapei as Chair of the MSG convened the urgent meeting to discuss among other things Fiji's expulsion from the Pacific Islands Forum and see what the MSG can do to try and open up dialogue with Fiji.
The retreat comes just about two weeks before the Pacific Islands Forum to be held in Cairns, Australia.
