Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says the Fijian government is planning to build more swimming facilities throughout Fiji.
While delivering his speech at the opening of the 11th Oceania Swimming Championship last night, Bainimarama says swimming is fast becoming a first tier sport in Fiji.
He says Fiji is steadily upgrading sporting facilities across the nation and part of that means building more swimming pools to enable competitive events to take place in our small town.
Meanwhile, Bainimarama is also urging parents to make sure that their child learns how to swim since it is a life‑skill of critical importance in the maritime nations of the Pacific, many of which like Fiji are also subject to regular flooding.
A total of 15 countries in the Pacific including Australia and New Zealand will be competing in the 2016 Oceania Swimming Championship which starts today at the Damodar Aquatic Centre.
