The Prime Minister has stressed that the price control on fuel products in Fiji will stay to provide some relief to the people of the country and to ensure that prices are affordable.
Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said the service stations' decision to lay off workers was a business decision but he said the fact remains that the retailers make more money from selling other products at the service stations.
On the layoffs which stood at about 400 service station attendants according to the Fiji Fuel Retailers Association, Commodore Bainimarama said people should not just think negative as the bigger picture is to grow the economy for everyone.
Although many service stations announced that they are on self-service as of last month, Fijivillage has noticed a number of service stations still have station attendants.
