The Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has assured farmers in the Sigatoka area that the Government will do all they can to ensure that the farmers get their sugar cane to the mills.
During his tour of the Kavanagasau and Olosara area, Commodore Bainimarama heard that many of the families in the area depended on the sugarcane industry and he has promised that the Government remains committed to the industry.
Meanwhile, during the meeting, the farmers informed Commodore Bainimarama that they were not able to cut their cane last year because of the poor road condition and most of the bridges in the areas were damaged by the Cyclone last year and by flooding, had not been fixed by FSC.
They also asked Commodore Bainimarama for compensation due to the loss of income from the cane still standing in the farms.
However, Commodore Bainimarama stressed to the farmers that there will not be any compensation.
Commodore Bainimarama is at the moment meeting with the villagers from Cuvu.
