The Director Corporate Services at the Prime Minister’s Office, Moape Rokosuka has told the Public Account Committee that the current Prime Minister always settles his personal bills on their credit card.
Rokosuka says the credit card was introduced by the Ministry of Finance.
Opposition MP Aseri Radrodro asked Rokosuka why some payments of the credit card were not made without any supporting documents.
Moape Rokosuka says they are currently doing reconciliation of bank statements.
Meanwhile, Rokosuka says they source funds from within their own budget to facilitate the Prime Minister’s travels.
This also follows a question raised by Public Accounts Committee Chairman Biman Prasad on why some funds from the Poverty Monitoring Unit were diverted to other things.
Rokosuka says from 2010 to 2012 the Prime Minister held four to five portfolios and all his travels locally and overseas were done from the budget allocation of the Office of the Prime Minister.
Prasad says sometimes ministries will have to divert funds but they need to budget their funds.
