Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama today presented a $300,000 cheque from the PM's National Disaster Relief Rehabilitation Fund to the Save the Children Fund.

Bainimarama handed a cheque for $150,000 to Save the Children chief executive Chandra Shekhar, being the first tranche of the grant and the money given is for the purpose of providing assistance to school children in the primary and secondary levels affected by the recent flood.

He said he was convinced that the Save the Children Fund has been able to reach out to flood affected areas and compile a comprehensive database of children affected in all areas.

Meanwhile, $150,000 is available for assistance in the first term and $75,000 each for terms two and three.

The financial assistance will bestow some relief with the purchase of school books, uniforms, stationery, lunches and bus fares.   

And for the people of Ba who still do not have clean drinking water, two Fiji Water trucks are supplying water to people at Govind Park this hour and two truckloads of Fiji Water will be at FSC Road, Ba, from this hour.

Ba is expected to have no water in many areas for at least four months.
