A total of 204 complaints were received by the Prices and Incomes Board for the first six months of the year with 28 prosecutions made.

PIB revealed that a total of 26 traders, a shipping company along with a landlord were prosecuted and fined and also told to pay up court costs.

The complaints made were received from around the country in Suva, Lautoka, Nadi, Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu and Taveuni.

The complaints dealt with landlords illegally increasing rent and in some cases shops and supermarkets were taken to task for selling price control items at excessive prices or failing to show the pricing of goods and services.

Some of the shops that were taken to task were RB Patel in Lautoka, Cost U Less Suva, New World Limited Nadi and Bligh Waters Shipping.

PIB said this is all due to the fact that the public are now more conscious of their rights as consumers and know what is expected of service providers.
