The Public Emergency regulation will remain in place for atleast the next three months to ensure the media outlets are taking the necessary steps to adhere to the requirements of the media decree.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama had earlier stated that the PER would be lifted once the media decree is put in place.
However, Attorney General and Minister for Communication Aiyaz Sayed-Khiayum said it has now been decided that the PER will remain in place until further notice.
Sayed Khiayum said until such time as the PER is removed, the Ministry of Information will continue to monitor closely the contents of all news items which is being put out to the public by all media outlets in Fiji.
Meanwhile, as criticisms of the implications of the media decree continue to mount from Australia and New Zealand, Sayed-Khiayum said the Australian and New Zealand Foreign Minister's should read the decree first before making any comments.
He reiterated that investment in Fiji will not be affected as they are claiming.
