The Public Emergency Regulations have been extended for another 30 days from June 10th.

This has been confirmed by Information Permanent Secretary Lt. Colonel Neumi Leweni who said they made the decision in order to provide greater stability and focus on government's nation building initiatives, that is, a society that is free from discrimination and corruption.

According to Leweni, Fiji as a whole is benefiting from the PER especially since most of the media are now more responsible with the way they report on national issues, while the absence of politics from the national agenda is contributing positively to the country's peace and stability.

The PER will be in place to July 10th where another assessment of the situation will be undertaken to determine its further extension or not.
