Alot of international reputable groups have raised concern on the independence of the judiciary, thus a fact finding mission by the UN Special Rapporteur for the Independence of Judges and Lawyers needs to take place.
The Pacific Centre for Public Integrity Director, Angie Heffernan maintains it is necessary to conduct such an inquiry.
Heffernan adds that if the interim government thinks that the judiciary is not compromised then there should not be any problem in allowing a fact finding mission to Fiji to assess the situation.
The Interim Attorney General, Aiyaz Saiyad Khaiyum had earlier said that PCPI and others must provide evidence to their claims and allegations that the judiciary in Fiji is no longer independent.
