Hopes are high that working hours for PAFCO staff in Levuka will no longer be reduced and staff will not be sent home as the fish processing factory is expected to get full supply of fish all the time.

Fish exports are also expected to increase due to more onshore processing of fish here.

Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum confirmed that as announced in the budget, there will be a $350 levy per tonne of fish  trans-shipped from Fiji.

He said this will encourage the fishing vessel owners to sell fish to the local processing companies rather than selling it offshore through the middlemen.
