The owners of the Fiji Times, Australian based News Limited, said they will try to sell the newspaper in order to keep it going.

Under the Media Decree, all media outlets in Fiji have to be 90 percent locally owned and News Limited, Publisher of The Australian and the Fiji Times, and 100% owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Cooperation said in a statement that it has been compelled to withdraw from Fiji.

Speaking to Radio Australia News Limited Spokesman Greg Baxter said their focus now is the welfare of the more than 1000 people that rely on the company.
