The Public Service Commission (PSC) is re-introducing the Overseas Scholarship Scheme next year.

PSC's Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand said that this is all part of the capacity building component of ongoing civil service reforms.

The scheme which was first introduced in the 1970's was suspended in the late 1980's, after it was ascertained that Fiji's training needs were being adequately addressed by overseas donor agencies.

Chand said that 30 places are being offered to both pre-service and in-service applicants and those successful will attend training institutions in Australia, New Zealand, China and Malaysia.

He said the government urgently needs civil servants who are highly qualified, innovative, efficient and productive and these studies are specifically targeted towards addressing the human resource needs of government.

He said the final date for applications is the 30th of this month.
