The Commerce Commission will look at the overseas benchmarks before making a decision on the regulation of the charges for services rendered by FINTEL through the Southern Cross cable.
Commission Chairman, Dr Mahendra Reddy said they are still waiting for submissions from FINTEL adding that the Commission will manage the process of regulating the price.
Meanwhile, Unwired Fiji's Executive Director, William Parkinson said the announcement is an important step towards opening up competition in telecommunication sector.
Telecommunication providers FINTEL, TFL, Vodafone and Digicel are expected to comment later on the issue.
