Fiji Rugby Union high performance unit manager Mr Talemo Waqa highlighted that Fijian rugby players overseas lured more than 100,000 pounds in remittances into the country every year.

This was during his presentation at the Fiji Sports Council stakeholders meeting yesterday.

According to the FRU data base, a total of 80 Fijian rugby players are now contracted with first grade teams overseas and they are paid up to 380,000 pounds per year.

FRU said the total number of Fijian players now playing their trade in overseas was 450 out of which 249 were contracted by overseas clubs.

However, the FRU presentation also revealed a major challenge they faced was that there were no tier one standard rugby ground in the country.
