There was a baby boom in Fiji starting from last month which saw more than 700 babies delivered at the CWM hospital alone last month.
This has also resulted in the shortage of beds at the Maternity ward.
Health Ministry's spokesperson, Iliesa Tora said 710 babies were born at the Hospital alone last month meaning that close to 25 babies were delivered at the Labour Ward per day.
He said this month so far the number of babies born at CWM has already reached more than 700.
Tora said there were two major factors for the lack of beds at the Maternity ward, one being the month of baby boom while the other was that pregnant women were brought to CWM for delivery from Serua/Namosi as the Navua Hospital is still closed.
Tora said February, March and April are the baby boom months and these are the months when they are always faced with the lack of beds at the CWM Hospital.
