The Police Drug Unit has uprooted 63,065 Marijuana plants from various farms in Fiji this year.

Officer-In-Charge Drugs, Inspector Rajeshni Mala said from the 63,000 Marijuana plants, 61,403 plants have been uprooted from the highlands of Navosa.

According to Inspector Mala, the 33 member drug squad has also confiscated large sums of cash from the highlands and is sure that more is hidden up in the highlands.

Police believe the farmers are not banking the money derived from the sale of drugs, as large sum of cash deposited can lead to suspicion.

A major operation is also underway from Christmas to combat drug trafficking during this festive season.
