More than 6000 students are in need of food and school items in the Eastern and Northern Division after the effects of Hurricane Tomas.

The Chief Executive Officer Chandar Shekhar said that after doing a damage assessment survey on 36 primary and 6 secondary schools, they found that a total of 6583 students need help.

He said 1953 students need stationeries while 4630 need lunch as the hurricane has destroyed their farm.

Shekhar said that they are still to get full figures from some schools which they expect to get this week.

He said after getting full figures, they will decide on assisting the students.
