More than 42 schools affected in the Eastern and Northern Divisions by Hurricane Tomas last month are in need of stationary supplies and lunch for the students.

The Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children Fiji Chandar Shekhar said 1592 students of 136 primary schools and 361 secondary school students need immediate stationary supplies.

He said as far as lunch is concerned 3,939 primary school students and 691 secondary students need lunch.

Shekhar added that a total of 6538 students altogether need assistance which will cost over $400,000.

He said they only have $100,000 and are waiting for assistance from donor agencies who have promised to help.

Shekhar said most of the students who need assistance are not going school and their main aim is to see that all students are in school.
