More than 400 people including public servants, youth groups and communities have taken their time out to take part in the nationwide “Clean Up Fiji Campaign” in an effort to control the dengue outbreak.

Ministry of Information representative to the National Taskforce Coordinating working group Prakash Narayan says PSC Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand, Acting Commissioner of Police Ravi Narayan, Army Personnel, Fiji Correctional Services officers, youth groups and communities took part in the cleanup campaign in Wailada this morning.

The cleanup campaign will continue for the next four Saturdays which will end on the 29th of this month.

People have been urged to destroy all mosquito breeding sites, place all tyres, drums and any other rubbish on the road side on the collection or clean up day and to clean all gutters and drains.

The Clean Up Fiji Campaign was launched at the Tikaram Park in Lami today.

The step is being taken as the confirmed number of dengue fever cases has now risen to 9,825 since October last year until Thursday last week.

Among these eight deaths that have being confirmed, four were children and the youngest victim was two months old.
 
Six cases of deaths were reported in the Central division, one in the Western Division and one death in the Northern division.
