More than 300 students had smiles on their faces after a non government organization, Poor Relief Society provided assistance for their education.

Society President, Sabita Gandhi said these students who were assisted mostly come from the farming community whose parents are facing difficulties.

She said some of the students who applied for assistance come from poor background and either one of their parents has passed away, only one is employed, parents have more children to educate or some have to look after the extended family.

Gandhi said a total of 35 schools including a tertiary institute student was assisted and more than 17,000 dollars was paid out for either their library fees, sports fees, building and maintenance fees, book fees, vocational training fees, and computer courses.
