A total of 21,760 drivers have been booked for speeding this year.

In a presentation at the Traffic Stakeholders meeting yesterday, Police say this was recorded from 1st January this year to the 13th of this month.

1,188 drivers were booked for careless driving in the same period while 1037 drivers were booked for not wearing their seatbelts.

994 drivers were booked for carrying excess passengers.

Also Police say 597 reported accidents have been recorded for this year so far with 13 fatal accidents recorded.

Police say the increase in the number of road accidents and fatalities is a major concern and despite continuous Police Enforcement the incidents of illegal operations continues to increase.
