The Land Transport Authority has so far impounded de-registered and booked more than 2000 vehicles during its joint operation with police since it started two weeks ago.

LTA Media Liaison Officer Doreen Narayan said 17 vehicles have been de-registered, 272 vehicles impounded and 1763 drivers have been booked for various traffic offences.

She said 50 drivers were given final warnings while 21 drivers had their license suspended and two driver=s licenses were cancelled. Narayan said 481 vehicles were issued with defect notices.

She said any first traffic offender is booked while a final written warning for vehicle de-registration is issued for drivers already booked previously.

She said private vehicles with a history of illegal operation are being de-registered and driver license is suspended for continuous involvement in illegal operations.
