Over 2000 civil servants who have reached the age of 55 years have left the civil service in the past four months.

This was the revelation by Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand who said that they are now carrying out performance audits in all government ministries to look at the need to re-engage some of these retirees.

A total of 241 retirees, with skills badly needed in the ministries have been re-engaged and Chand hopes that with these audits, this number is brought down to 216.

Chand also revealed that they are drafting a paper that will see people voluntarily opt for retirement and cabinet is expected to make a decision soon on the new draft which is expected to be implemented in the next few weeks.
