Over one hundred and sixty thousand dollars will be needed by the National Fire Authority to be able to run the Emergency Ambulance Services.

That was the revelation from Health Ministry as the emergency Ambulance service was officially handed over to the NFA earlier this week.

Permanent Secretary for Health Doctor Sala Saketa said that $163,000 was requested by NFA as they start the pilot Emergency Service to those residents along the Suva and Nausori corridor which is the most densely populated area in the country.

NFA Chief executive, Jone Koroi said that this money will be used to cover their expenses like fuel for three ambulances based at the Suva, Valelevu and Nausori fire stations.

Koroi revealed that apart from the requested budget for their operation, more funding is being sought to train their officers to ensure that they receive paramedic training.

At the moment, twenty officers have been through basic first aid training, with more specialist paramedic training in the pipeline.
