Organization swims for child cancer patients
International Union for Conservation of Nature Director General Julia Marton-Lefevre said she is among those inspired by the bravery and faith of 15 year old Tae Kami who died from cancer two years ago in Nuku'alofa, Tonga, who had also lived and studied in Fiji.
Kami's ordeal was followed by people in many countries who read her moving account of her fight with the disease on her personal website and her song "Walk On, Walk Strong" has become an anthem for supporters of the Tae Kami Foundations in Fiji and Tonga, established to provide support for young cancer patients.
Marton-Lefevre said their swim and cycle ride will not only financially benefit the Tae Kami Foundations but also help publicize what they are doing to bring relief to cancer children in Fiji and Tonga.
Meanwhile, this Saturday, friends and supporters of the Fiji Tae Kami Foundation will join a fundraising walk in Suva to mark the second anniversary of Tae's death, starting from Albert Park and along Queen Elizabeth Drive.
