The DISMAC Office has welcomed the initiative taken by organisations in setting up their own tsunami warning system.
Acting Director Pajiliai Dobui said while they are awaiting funding for government's early warning system, many organisations have informed them that they are willing to fund their own system.
Dobui said many of these organisations are those located in vulnerable areas.
DISMAC had earlier revealed that a tsunami warning system had been tested, and plans are in place to set up several within the Suva city boundary and along the coastal areas.
The original cost for the large tsunami warning system stands at $25,000, while the smaller system costs $5,000 each, for which Government is awaiting funding.
