Opposition MPs created a scene in parliament today when they all stood up at the same time and started asking for the Speaker of Parliament, Doctor Jiko Luveni to allow their question to be heard.
It started off with Opposition Whip, Ratu Isoa Tikoca questioning why their question which they term as urgent regarding the Prime Minister’s statement that Fiji does not want Australia and New Zealand in the Pacific Islands Forum, is not allowed.
Tikoca made this point of order to the Speaker in the presence of the Speaker of the NZ Parliament, David Carter.
Doctor Luveni then explained that the matter has been publicly addressed by the Prime Minister and it is not an urgent question.
However she said it can be considered under the normal process.
Opposition MP, Viliame Gavoka then stood up and asked that these sorts of questions be allowed as urgent.
Other opposition MP’s then stood up and also started yelling and pointing at the government MPs.
Doctor Luveni said her decision stands and the question will not be allowed as an urgent question.
