The discovery of more marijuana in the streets of the urban centers has prompted police to step up their operation in the highlands of Navosa.

Assistant Police Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said operation "Damudamu" which is currently underway up in the highlands of Navosa is undertaken to ensure that no marijuana is supplied to dealers in towns and cities during the festive season and the school holidays.

He said this has been a trend in the past where farmers would cultivate marijuana and then supply it to paddlers in towns and cities during Christmas and New Year.

Police uprooted more than 800 marijuana plants from four different farms in Navosa over the weekend.

These plants had a street value of $3.8 million.
