21-year-old Iliesa Namosimalua, one of Fiji's 2008 Beijing Olympic prospects, returned to Fiji last weekend to pursue a two-year Diploma of Teaching Course at the Fiji College of Advanced Education.

Namosimalua had already given up on a similar situation while at FIT last year, and after being given a scholarship to study at FCAE, he could not afford to delay his academic qualifications any longer.

Iliesa will now train locally and hopes to represent Fiji at the Oceania Championship in Saipan from 25-28 June this year, Cook Islands Mini Games in 2009, Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Until last weekend, Iliesa was based in Brisbane training with Makelesi Batimala and was edging close to qualification for the Beijing Olympics with personal bests of 46.74 seconds in the 400m and 21.28 seconds in the 200m.
