Old coins will not be used as a form of trade from today onwards.

The Reserve Bank of Fiji is encouraging people who still have the old 50, 20, 10, and 5 cent coins to go down to the bank or to the Reserve Bank to change their coins to the new set, which are smaller in appearance and lighter in weight.

The new coins came into circulation from January 13th this year and are not expected to be changed for another 40 years.

The Reserve Bank reiterates it is imperative that people change their coins now so that they can get a value for it.
