Old capital celebrates Fiji Day
Those were the words of Lands Minister Netani Sukainavalu who was one of the Chief Guests at Fiji's 40th Independence Day celebrations in the Old Capital today.
Sukanaivalu said Levuka will always have a special place in the history of Fiji and will always have significance during the Fiji Day celebrations.
He said Government was optimistic that everyone could build Fiji with a change of mind and attitude
Meanwhile, it was a walk down memory lane for the inhabitants of Levuka.
Lomaiviti Provincial Administrator Peteresio Nonu said when the committee approached the Turaga na Tui Bureta, Ratu Leone Davila to be one of the chief guests, he became emotional as he remembered the old days adding the people are trying to forget what happened in the past and trying to move forward.
School children, government ministries and the public celebrated Fiji Day at Nasau Park Levuka.
