All oil companies in the country will now be required to apply for an import license to purchase diesel exceeding 500 parts per million sulphur after the Trade Standards Amendment Order was gazetted.

The Commerce and Trade Ministry confirmsed the gazette has made mandatory the National Gas Oil Standard for Fiji with the relevant changes to allow for the import of 5000 parts per million for re-export purposes only.

The amendment order now includes Import licensing of Gas Oil or Diesel which states that all diesel imported exceeding 500 parts per million sulphur for re-export purposes only will be issued an import license from the Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade.

Letters have also been written to the oil companies, Mobil, BP and TOTAL informing them of the amendment order and the requirements to apply for an import license.
