The Fiji Police Force believes that Police officers on tourist operation should learn a foreign language to communicate well with tourists.

Police currently faces setback in their operation when dealing with non-English speaking tourists on board the Japanese cruise liner Peace Boat because of the language barrier.

Learning a foreign language other than English would help police communicate with tourists easily and advice tourists on things to do before they disembark from the ship.

Meanwhile, the Suva City Council has employed former Police officers to assist in beefing up their tourist operation.

8 former Police officers and three civilians are currently employed as city sheriffs when a cruise liner arrives in Suva.
