Importers, suppliers and retailers of fireworks must obtain a license to store and sell fireworks.
This is the advice from the Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources Lt Col Neumi Leweni who said that any retailer found in possession of consignment of fireworks without relevant licenses will be thoroughly investigated.
He stressed that suppliers or wholesalers responsible will be taken to task for selling fireworks to non licensed retailers.
This he added is based on the "explosives act" and the "General business practice on fire safety".
For the import, storage both wholesale or warehouse and retailing of fireworks, the Ministry requires an application for license to store and deal with firework and NFA certificate for each wholesale and storage facility and retailing outlet.
This certificate will be issued by the National Fire Authority after inspection of the storage facilities/warehouses and retailing outlets for fire safety compliance.
Leweni said only after this process the license for retailing of fireworks will be approved.
