More than one million people gathered to witness the historic moment as Barack Obama was inaugurated and was sworn in as America's 44th and first African American President in the last hour.
In his inauguration speech at the National Mall in Washington DC, Obama vowed the US will once again become the world power it once was.
The US President stressed that the work to rebuild America starts now.
