After a seven‑hour hearing in London, Ireland flanker Sean O'Brien was handed a one‑week ban for striking French lock Pascal Pape in the opening minute of Monday's win over France.

O'Brien could have been suspended for 52 weeks for throwing a punch at Papé's ribs but the Judicial officer said he committed a small offence.

The judicial officer also highlighted that because of O’Brien’s good behaviour at the hearing his initial ban of two weeks has been reduced to one.

Ireland will take on Argentina at 12am next Monday.
