Nurses will be disciplined if they “Go Slow”-Health Minister
Doctor Jona Senilagakali is concerned that a number of nurses who were supposed to return to work over the weekend did not turn up at the hospitals.
He said although it would be difficult to slow down the essential health services, the ministry will keep a close watch on the situation.
Majority of the nurses who were on strike last week have resumed their normal duties from this morning however two nursing stations in the Western Division are still closed.
Divisional Medical Officer Western, Dr. Eloni Tora confirms apart from the two nursing stations all are now fully operational. He said some nurses from the Nadroga nursing station are on leave which has forced the authorities to close the station.
He added that he cannot confirm at this stage whether these nurses on leave were on strike last week or the ones who pulled the twelve hour shifts. Dr. Tora said repair works are underway at Lomawai health centre in Sigatoka and the centre is closed.
He said some nurses were on sick leave over the weekend who has returned to work.
In the Northern Division, all 100 nurses in the division have started work and all the health centres and nursing stations are fully operational.
In the Central/Eastern Division all nurses who were supposed to start work this morning have reported to the respective Health Centers and Hospitals.
