Nurses in the outer islands and the rural areas are now being asked to adopt a "Youth Friendly" attitude.

Adolescent Health Project Officer Sister Sulueti Duvaga said that with the recent tours of the rural areas by the Minister, it has come to light that these areas record the highest number of teenage pregnancy cases.

According to Duvaga, the nurses have been briefed to ensure that when the youths come into health centers, they are able to learn more about what to do to prevent such reports.

She highlighted the case where in the North they saw an increase number of cases reported to 153 compared to the previous years.

Duvaga adds that once they get the nurses to adopt the strategy they will now focus on Faith Based organisation to reach out to their own congregation especially the parents, guardians and young people.

Though the Ministry is waiting for an official report on the number of cases, it is understood that there are 823 cases reported so far from the Health centers in urban areas.
