The Fiji Nursing Association said recent studies have recommended nurses should be retained in the workforce until the age of 65 and is calling on the Public Service Commission to be mindful of these findings.
FNA General Secretary Kuini Lutua said the Job Evaluation Exercise of 2003 and the Nursing Review in 2007 have stressed the need to retain nurses for longer periods.
Lutua also confirmed that around 100 of their members would be affected and they will continue to stress the need to retain qualified nurses in the country.
Meanwhile, as the PSC prepares to start implementing the 55 years retirement age policy, the Public Sector Unions are preparing to apply for a stay on its implementation and appeal the decision in the Supreme Court.
