As the interim cabinet has the final look at the Fiji Nurses Association's demands before their strike notice expires at midnight tonight, Interim Public Service Minister, Poseci Bune has assured nurses planning to go on strike that they will not be threatened by the police and military officers.

Bune said although the unions have raised concern over the training exercise involving police officers and soldiers last Friday, the members of the disciplined forces will only be called in if there are any riots or violent incidents.

However, Interim Public Service Minister Poseci Bune has called on the unions to be content with whatever they have been offered by the Interim Government.

Members of the Fiji Nurses Association are expected to walk off their jobs at midnight tonight should the interim cabinet reject their revised memorandum of agreement this morning.

With FNA members around the country standing by for further instructions from Executives, FNA President Simione Racolo said while they are willing to negotiate a figure on the restoration of the pay cut, their members have made it clear that they will not settle for just a one percent restoration.

However Racolo said the FNA will not accept the 1 percent restoration of the pay cut.

The interim cabinet will meet this morning to make a decision on the revised proposal put forward by the FNA and Bune confirms that the FNA has suggested that the interim government borrow money from the Fiji National Provident Fund to meet their demands.

FNA Executives say they expect a reply from Bune by midday today on their proposals following which the nation will be informed about the strike action.
