More nurses are continuing to leave our shores for better pay and working conditions overseas.

This is the concern raised by the President of the Fiji Nursing Association Salanieta Mataiyavi said in the last two months fifteen nurses have resigned and a few others have called her with intention of also resigning.

Mataiyavi said the trend is worrying as because Fiji is losing a lot of skilled nurses and replacing them with graduates straight out of nursing school cannot account for the years of experience lost to those leaving.

Matayavi added she anticipates the current trend continuing well into the New Year if something is not done to address nurses’ needs.
