Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama said the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group can go ahead and kick Fiji out now if it intends to do so in December.
Speaking to Radio Tarana in New Zealand, Bainimarama said whether or not Fiji is suspended from the Group, nothing would change as no elections would be held this year at all.
Bainimarama said he was expecting Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma to phone him soon and that he will tell him in no uncertain terms that nothing's going to change.
The interim prime Minister said if they want to suspend Fiji in December, they should do it now as no one is going to interfere in what the interim government is trying to do, not Australia, not New Zealand, not anybody else.
Bainimarama stressed that of we go into elections now, it is not going to serve any purpose and it is probably going to make things worse for the people of Fiji.
The Commonwealth has given Fiji a six month deadline for the interim government to follow the Pacific Islands Forum deadline to have elections by December this year.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Murry McCully believes that the deadline given to Fiji will no achieve anything.
Meanwhile, the SDL Party Leader, Laisenia Qarase is calling on the Interim Government to heed calls made by the international community and by overwhelming majority of the people of Fiji for a general election this year.
