The Transport Ministry said their review of the Government shipping franchise system is still ongoing and nothing has been finalised yet.

Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said they are still in the process of compiling a report which will then be forwarded to the line Minister Timoci Natuva for his approval, before its implemented.

Waqainabete had earlier stated that they were doing their best to address transportation problems faced by those living in outer islands, especially for those in Lau and Rotuma who often encounter shortages in the supply of basic items, due to the lack of shipping services.

Waqainabete adds most of these routes do not have proper shipping services as shipping companies find them to be unprofitable, which is the reason why most have opted to stay away from servicing them.

She could not divulge how long it will take for the review to be completed.
