The Fiji Retailers Association believes that while operating hours of shops in Suva city has been reduced, there has not been much change in the crime rate in the capital.
According to Association President, Himmat Lodhia, they have noticed that drug peddlers move away from the city as shops are closing early, but the crime rate remains the same.
Lodhia also said that initially there were complaints on the closing hours of shops adding that the only complaints they receive are from internet and dairy shops.
Suva City Council made changes to the operating hours of shops and those businesses who wished to open their shops beyond 6pm have to apply for a permit and required to pay $20 week.
