The Northern semifinal will pit the inconsistent French up against a Welsh side which is fast becoming the second team of choice among many New Zealand fans.

Wales has been the real surprise package of the tournament, as they’ve built their game around resolute defense and exciting back play.

France, on the other hand has been the unpredictable team throughout the tournament, has won nine of the two countries last 11 meetings, with Wales victories coming in their Six Nations Grand Slam years of 2005 and 2008.

Wales forwards coach Robin McBride said he expects a strong physical challenge from the big French pack in the battle for possession.

France captain Thierry Dusautoir said the team’s attitude this week has been very positive and this time they will not repeat what happened in their 2007 World Cup where they bowed out in the semis.

The first semifinal of the Rugby World Cup today at 8pm will see France meet Wales and tomorrow at 8pm the All Blacks meet the Wallabies and the live commentaries of both matches can be heard on our sister station, Viti FM with Malakai Veisamasama and Ilivasi Tabua.
