Northern Air has had to bite the bullet and start services to Savusavu from today despite incurring initial financial losses.
Northern Air's first flight touched down at Savusavu airport this morning and Marketing Manager Dharmendra Vijay said while they believe there is not much demand to cover their operational costs to service the route, they are ready to make sacrifices.
Vijay said they are optimistic that the demand for their flights will increase and the Nausori to Savusavu and Nadi to Savusavu flights will become viable.
The inaugural Northern Air flight into Savusavu airport this morning was greeted with a ceremony and received the blessings of the Tui Savusavu.
The airline will provide two weekly flights to Savusavu from this week.
