Naroi villager, Lesi Draunidalo explained that unlike Cyclone Mick, most of the villages and Government officials on the island had to move to higher ground to be safe from the storm surge and strong winds on Monday.
Draunidalo explained how everyone had come together at the Naroi Church and the village hall, which were used as evacuation centres, and the villagers found out that two elderly people, aged 70 and 80 years old, were still in their houses.
According to Draunidalo, about 10 men braved the strong winds, to go back to the two elderly people in their houses, which were 500 metres away, and take them to higher ground.
Draunidalo adds that in all the eight villagers in Moala, majority of the houses are intact, however most of the vegetation has been destroyed.
In Naroi alone the Government quarters, Naroi District school canteen and the seawall has been badly damaged.
