All Black second five Ma’a Nonu has signed for the Hurricanes for the 2015 Super Rugby season.

Nonu left the franchise after the 2011 season and played for the Highlanders and Blues.

However with coach Mark Hammett leaving the Hurricanes, Nonu has decided to return home.

Nonu earned 110 caps for the Hurricanes between 2003 and 2011.

He said he's thankful to the Blues for the support they had shown him, but also grateful to be coming back to the Hurricanes.

Nonu said he's very happy to be heading home to the family again and is looking forward to the challenge ahead in 2015.

Incoming Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd said the skill Nonu will bring to the Hurricanes will greatly complement the players already on the roster.

Boyd said he coached Ma’a Nonu for the first time back in the early 2000s in the Wellington B team, so they have a long history together as a player and coach.
